At the age of 23, Yew Chai had to undergo delicate surgery to fuse his spine as a result of a devastating injury that caused a slipped disc. While the operation went smoothly, it left the young man with numbness, weakness and pain in his legs and back which limited his movements and made it difficult for him to walk or sit for long. He felt frustrated and helpless. Recovery, which eventually took over a year and a half, was painful and slow. During that time, Yew Chai realised that health is precious and that the capacity to be financially secure and independent should be a vital part of his personal life goals.

The traumatic experience spurred Yew Chai to recover and seek a career in financial advisory.

Based on a friend referral, Yew Chai joined IPPFA. Under the guidance of his manager, Eunice Goh, he was convinced by her client-centric approach which led him to stay on and became a successful individual.

It’s been almost a decade since Yew Chai joined IPPFA. Today, the go-getter has accumulated a list of qualifications to his name — from a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance from the University of London to accreditation as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Associate Estate Planner Practitioner (AEPP). The father of one is also a 4-time qualifier of IPPFA’s prestigious Chairman’s Round Table (CRT) award and 6-time qualifier of IPPFA’s Producer’s Club.

Beyond academic qualifications, skill certifications, awards and accolades, Yew Chai’s strengths come from his tenacity to rise from adversity and learn at every opportunity.
